Education Assistance
Scheme:
Education Assistance Scheme was started
by Seva Samaj with a view to assist students who can not afford
to spend on education. Initially, assistance was given in
the form of scholarship to the students of all faculty and
Seva Samaj used to disburse a sum of about Rs. 4/5 lacs in
a year. The demand from students was increasing every year
due to increase in fees and affiliation money. Seva Samaj
had limited resources, so Seva Samaj decided to give interest
free loan instead of scholarship/aid. With the introduction
of concept of free/paid seat of admission for certain disciplines
an expenditure on education increased to a great extend. The
Financial burden was very high and education became difficult
for common and poor class of people. Seva Samaj fixed a target
that no student should leave his/her study half way due to
shortage of funds. Seva Samaj had also decided that by 2005
there should be at least one graduate in each family.
Seva Samaj had fixed target but had no
resources to spend on education, which was prime need of each
family. At this juncture a offer of Rs.
25 lacs was received from a gentleman with a condition
that Seva Samaj should collect another Rs. 25 lacs and use
entire fund for education. The condition was little difficult
as to collect such a big amount was not a easy task. Moreover,
an educational expenditure is not one time expenditure.
A student has to be given loan
continously till he completes his education. But the
workers of Seva Samaj decided to accept the challenge and
worked for it. The offer gave great push to Seva Samaj to
dedicate more time and strength for education.
Keeping in view education span of five
years in India a scheme was drawn in such a way that a student
should not experience shortage of funds once he starts his
education. Seva Samaj approach donors and convince them the
importance of education and need for diverting funds for the
activity. For this purpose Report was prepared and submitted
to prospective donors and KVO people. Seva Samaj was able
to convince that there would be need for continues flow of
funds for five years and donors should take up this noble
social activity. Seva Samaj got
commitments from donors for five to ten years for the donations
of Rs. 1 lac to Rs. 15 lacs every year. It got donations from
Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
Seva Samaj appeals to all donors to
adopt at least one student with donation of Rs. 25,000/-
But Seva Samaj did not stop here. Keeping
in view the large number of students going to abroad there
was need to extend its services in this area. Seva Samaj made
an arrangement with donor in such a way that a student as
soon he lands in USA he will get assistance there.
At present Seva Samaj offers it's under
Education Assistance Scheme as under:
(a) Education Aid to students who are
not in position to repay loan
(b) Education Loan Scheme
(c) Assistance to students going to abroad
Education Assistance disbursed during
last two years.
